How to Troubleshoot Your Indoor Heating and Cooling Unit for Issues

Problem solving begins with the knowledge of how a system runs the right way. Are you experienced enough to diagnose a problem? If not, you could put yourself—and your family—needlessly in harm’s way. When you need help troubleshooting indoor heating and cooling issues, it’s important to turn to the experts for assistance.

nDetermined to attempt a DIY fix? Follow these steps, and give us a call if you can’t find your answer right away:

Check Your Power

It sounds ridiculous, but most units won’t turn on because of electrical problems. A fuse has burned out, a breaker has tripped, the batteries in your thermostat have finally run dry. It’s one of the easiest solutions to a non-working furnace or central air condition, but you’d be surprised how many people skip it.

Check Your Airflow

HVAC systems require more than a thermostat and power to run. They’re surprisingly complicated machines. Pressure and airflow have a big impact on how well your HVAC system works. If you’re no getting the relief you need, be sure to check out your air filter and intake valves. It could be a simple matter of blocked airflow preventing your unit from functioning correctly.

nCheck Your Outdoor Unit

Sometimes, objects and debris that interfere with your outdoor AC unit can cause big problems. Thankfully, all it takes is a weed whacking and a wash down with the house to clean things out, and get them back up and running. You can prevent this, in part, by using an HVAC cover when your AC isn’t in use.
