What Kind of HVAC Issues Blown Fuses Indicate

fuses

Blown fuses are all too common in HVAC units, but that doesn’t make them any less irritating. You want your house’s interior to stay comfortable, but that’s not possible when fuse issues keep the unit from running. When it happens repeatedly, however, blown fuses become more than just a nuisance. They might indicate more serious issues plaguing your HVAC system, and in most cases, only a professional can adequately address the problem.

Built-up Dirt Can Lead to Blown Fuses

When air filters become so dirty they get clogged, particularly during periods of extreme heat or cold, it can lead to increased pressure on the unit’s condenser. When the pressure builds too high, the system can overheat — leading to a blown fuse. The coils on the condenser can also become dirty over time, which is another source of additional strain on the system.

Is the Motor Capacitor Blocked Up or Old?

The capacitor, which helps control the level of electrical current passing through the condenser, might be reaching the end of its useful life. If it starts to malfunction due to age or dirt build-up, the capacitor might be forced to work much harder than it should. This motor might need replacing soon. An inspection by a qualified technician will determine if the capacitor is the source of the problem.
